If the 2024 presidential election were held today, the outcome in Michigan would be much different than in November when Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris 49.7 percent to 48.3 percent, with 1.96 percent voting for a third-party candidates.

A poll conducted between March 3-6 by Target Insyght of Lansing on behalf of MIRS News shows Harris leading Trump 48-41 percent with 41 percent of Independents switching their vote to Harris.

"This poll shows Independents are going to be very key to any election going forward," said pollster Ed Sarpolus, executive director of Target Insyght. "They are likely to determine elections going forward."

The poll shows third-party candidates receiving 4 percent of the vote, with another 7 percent undecided. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. Of the 600 voters surveyed, 41 percent were Democrats, 41 percent were Republicans, and 18 percent were Independents.

The poll breakdown is as follows:

83 percent of Republicans remained with Trump.
88 percent of Democrats remained with Harris.
17 percent of Independents switched to Trump.
41 percent of Independents switched to Harris.
